Crisis and Resilience Fund (CRF) housing payments

If you’re getting Universal Credit with the Housing Element, or Housing Benefit, and struggle to pay your rent, you could be eligible for a Crisis and Resilience Fund Housing Payment. These were previously called Discretionary Housing Payments (DHP).

CRF Housing Payment is a short term or one off payment that is available for those experiencing exceptional financial hardship.

What CRF Housing Payments can help with

CRF Housing Payments may help with:

  • rent shortfalls where your Housing Benefit or Universal Credit housing support does not cover your full rent
  • rent in advance
  • rent deposits
  • moving costs if you are moving to more affordable or suitable accommodation

What CRF Housing Payments cannot help with

CRF Housing Payments cannot help with:

  • living costs such as water, fuel or food
  • any of the rent you pay towards service charges that are not included in your Housing Benefit or Housing Element award (these are called ineligible service charges)
  • the amount of Housing benefit or Universal Credit being recovered for an overpayment
  • the amount of any benefit not paid due to sanction
